Google PageRank Update: Everything You Need To Know

About 3 months after the page rank update in November, Google has just rolled out new PageRank update for various web Page's today on 6th February 2012 and guess what it was good for us. For your information, Google updates page rank in every 3 or 4 months and it was expected in the late January or early February.

Yes our page rank updated from two to three, thanks Google for updating page rank. In addition to that my personal Google+ profile page rank ( for both /post and /about ) updated from one to two. Now I'm looking to launch a new blog about social media specially on Google+ and twitter :D

What is Page Rank?


Page Rank is a rank given to web page by Google on the basis of sites linking in, note that its not only the total number of sites linking in it but its about the quality of sites linking in. For example I would be very happy if several blogs with page rank 6 link to my blog rather than tons of pr1 blogs linking in.

Actually page rank indicates importance of web page for Google and it was developed by Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.


Below is the page rank meaning from one to ten.

Page Rank 0: Don't worry, you have nothing to loose :P
Page Rank 1: Poor, But the best part is you can tell your blogging friends you have page rank.
Page Rank 2: Don't worry, 90% of blog has page rank 2. Tip: comment more.
Page Rank 3: Avarage, yeah you just got the real taste of blogging, you need to submit guest posts and do at least two directory submission per month.
Page Rank 4: Good, You are doing it right. Just submit more guest post to sites having pr6 or above.
Page Rank 5: Very Good, please contact me :P
Page Rank 6: Great, you have done some good work and you are one of the top blogs in your niche.
Page Rank 7: Awesome, You are leading the way for other blogs.
Page Rank 8: You are on fire and you must have great fan following.

Page Rank 10: You rule the web but the worst part is you can't improve your page rank. example Google.com, cnn.com etc.



How Can I See PageRank?

There are lots of tools available for viewing your page rank but I would recommend you to install chrome extension named "PageRank Status" for this purpose from here.

Don't worry if you are not using chrome, you can still use online tools like www.checkpagerank.net/  and     www.prchecker.info/ to check page rank of desired pages.

What if I'm using FireFox?

Switch to chrome :P(not kidding) or just install PageRank for Firefox.


What if I'm using Internet Explorer? 

I think You should not worry about page rank system, just focus on blogging. However you can still install Google Page Rank Toolbar for this purpose but seriously it will not help.


How Can I Increase My PageRank?


Good question, well the answer is simple, get dofollow backlinks from high page rank blogs, yes getting nofollow backlinks is useless as far as Google page rank is concerned. For increasing your page rak you can do following things.

Submit Guest Posts: 

Submit Guest post to high page rank blogs, start with page rank 2 and move on to high page rank blogs.

Directory Submission: 

Directory submission is very useful tool if you are willing to increase your page rank, it might be difficult as they usually don't accept low quality articles but it worth submitting.

Some Article Directories I would Recommend are, GoArticle, EzineArticle, etc.

Comment, Comment, Comment:

Comment on Dofollow blogs, it might be difficult to find dofollow blogs but they can increase your page rank to great extent. Comments are most valuable if they are done on relevant pages.
Tip: Also comment on nofollow blogs not for page rank but to gain some valuable traffic.


Internal Linking

Do links to your own article, specially use 3 way linking? Three way linking can give you higher page rank in no time.

what is three way linking? 

consider page A, page B and Page C. Now Link page A to page B and then link page B to page C and finally link page C back to page A.

Link To Google

What the heck you are talking about? please calm down Google also needs traffic and want to improve their page rank as well. If you send them some quality traffic, they will send back some quality traffic to you as well.

Link To Other Blogs

Link to other blogs if you trust them i.e. if they are not posting spammy contents, in this way not only you are able to gain other bloggers attention but you can get some link back to your site as well.

After Megaupload BTjunkie Goes Down

We all know BTjunkie as one of the best BitTorrent search engine but not now, yes btjunkie is no
more. The site has been shut down due to obvious reasons. In the morning I have tried to access  BitTorrent  and I was shocked to see  the message (see the screen shot below) posted there.

Why it was Shocking for me? 

It was shocking for me as the site was never involved in any legal action unlike others such as
4shared, mediafire, the pirate bay etc.


For those who don't know what btjunkie is, BTjunkie is a web web crawler used to search for torrent
files from various torrent sites available. The sites has alexa rank of 390 and visited by millions of people daily.  See the screen shot below to view the details of BTjunkie.

It doesn't matter if US government was unsuccessful to implement sopa/pipa, they can still shut down sites like Megaupload and Btjunkie without sopa/pipa and acta.

Blogspot.com blogs are now transferred to Blogspot.in In India

What the f*** is how I responded when I saw my alexa rank dropped from 180,000 to more than one million,seriously how Google can do it without any notification.

I think this is global change for all blogspot users, for example if you are living in India your blogspot
URL will be changed from blogspot.com to blogspot.in for indian visitors(my Guess).

I have tried to access my blog in other countries using proxy sites and noticed no change there, so
change this might be for Indian users only or for local blogs( it is unclear now as we have not noticed any announcement from Google or blogger team).


When I saw My my blogspot blog is transferred to .in, it was very frustrating experience for me
and it must be frustrating for other bloggers also.


How This Change Will Affect Your Blog?

Backlinks: No more backlinks to your new address and this is ridiculous as building Backlinks is not an easy job, I have spent about one year to build backlinks and that hurts a lot.

Alexa Rank: Your alexa rank will reduced to zero. Also Alexa will now record your data from different domains and assign different rank for them.

Page Rank: This will affect your page rank, my page rank dropped from 2 to zero.

Social Media Share: It will affect your social media share due to the presence of multiple url's of the same post. Personally I don't care about social media share numbers but I care about traffic and number of plus one's I get as it affect my seo and organic traffic.
Note: It will not affect facebook likes, if you have placed canonical tag on your blog.

Traffic: I don't think this will affect your traffic as your visitors are redirected from old URL's to new one.

SEO: will this affect your seo? my answer is both yes and no, yes because you will loose all your backlinks and pagerank and no because it will not affect your content.

Update1: Yes, it will affect your search engine optimisation(SEO) as crawler will find duplicate content from your site on many different domains and thus it will downgrade your rankings in search engine.
Conclusion: Ultimately it will kill your blog.

Update2: As .com version of your blog is still there for visitors from other countries, it will not kill your backlinks but it does affect your Alexa rank and Page Rank.

Update3: Use canonical tag on your blog to minimise any traffic loss due to duplicate content, also if you wish to visit .com version of your blog then use NCR(stands for "No Country Redirect") URL.

For example http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/ncr will always redirect you to .com version of your blog.

Update4: This update is rolled out in Australia and soon will be rolled out in every country except
US(I guess)

Blogspot URL in  Australia has been changed to http://yourblogname.blogspot.com.au/ from http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/

Update6: This is change is driven by the ongoing hearing against Google Inc in the Delhi High Court
and censorship issue in various other countries. Also this change gives Google the ability to selectively censor the blogspot blogs in various countries. For example, if you are living in india and Indian government orders Google to block your blog then Google can simply remove your .in version of your blog without affecting .com version of your blog.



What You can Do? 

There is nothing you can do about, Google want this change and they have imposed it.

Advice 

If you are affected by this move then you should buy a custom domain to protect your blog from future changes or you can just export your blog to other blogging platform like wordpress.

Reddit Announces Blackout to Stop SOPA

Reddit Announces blackout to protest against Stop Online Piracy Act(SOPA).

The Blackout involves shutting down of normal operation on 18th jan from 8

a.m. to 8 p.m. ET.


   

   
   



During that period, Reddit visitors will find a message about SOPA and

associated bill PIPA.The message will explain how sites like Reddit, YouTube

etc are in danger of shutting down after implementation of those bills.

Along with message visitors are also provided with links, explaining how to

take action against SOPA and PIPA.


For your information, reddit is strongly protesting these bills since day

one. Reddit has been a centre of discussion in protest against SOPA causing

lots of problem to Go Daddy and other SOPA supporters.


Redditors have created anti-SOPA website, chrome extension, Android and iOS

apps against SOPA.





Reddit admins announces this protest in a blog post 

"We’re as addicted to reddit as the rest of you. Many of you stand with us
against PIPA/SOPA, but we know support for a blackout isn’t unanimous. We're
not taking this action lightly. We wouldn’t do this if we didn’t believe this
legislation and the forces behind it were a serious threat to reddit and the
Internet as we know it. Blacking out reddit is a hard choice, but we feel
focusing on a day of action is the best way we can amplify the voice of the

HP Turns WebOS into an Open Source Project

Hewlett-Packard Co (HP) announces on  Friday that they are turning webOS into an

open source project.Earlier it was speculated that HP's webOS will be going

away.






     

    



For those who dont know what HP's webOS is all about, it is an OS which is based on Linux kernel.

Also it was initially developed by Palm, which was later acquired by HP for US$1.2 billion.


How webOS will work in the future : 


The webOS will be offered under a license that lets hardware manufacturers and

software developers access its source code and use it freely in products.



Palo Alto, California-based company said HP will remain active in developing and

supporting WebOS.

Facebook Confirms Gowalla Acquisition : Gowalla is Going Away

service Gowalla To Boost its Timeline Feature.Today The Social Networking Gaint,

Facebook officially announced that they have acquired Gowalla.

Facebook has made it clear that they are not buying location-services technology

from Gowalla but but they are hiring  Gowalla management team which includes CEO

Microsoft Quoted Xbox LIVE “Has Not Been Hacked”

 

Today Microsoft announced second time that Xbox LIVE has not been hacked as The

Sun newspaper was claiming that Microsoft were “covering up” hacks on the Xbox

LIVE service.



A Microsoft Announces in a statement :



“As we commented on Tuesday, the Xbox LIVE service has not been hacked. However,

we are investigating a number of recent customer complaints relating to Xbox LIVE

customer service – particularly in the way that we have processed refunds to

customers that have been victims of phishing related fraud.

“Consequently, we are taking several steps to address and resolve these

particular issues as soon as possible and working closely with our affected

customers to investigate and resolve any unauthorized charges made to their

accounts resulting from recent phishing scams.

“Finally we would like to apologise to any customers who have not experienced a

good service from us.”

This Morning when i opened my Twitter Account(@techniciablog) I was shocked to

too see that twitter has made some changes to its user interface which looks

better than previous one.

 

Let us understand these changes.twitter has introduced new tab called activity

in which you can see your Friends activity.The activity tab includes Favorites,

follows, retweets, and more by people you follow.Many of us thinks that the

Retweet tab is replaced by activity tab which is wrong in the sense that you can

now view your tweets that were retweeted and more in @username tab.

  



@username tab includes your mentions, tweets that were retweeted and who have

listed you recently.

Larry Page : Google+ Now Has 40 Million Users

   

  


Larry Page has announced that Google+ now Has 40 Million Users in a press

release.Note that these are just the number of registered users Google+ has

and there is no way one can find out how many sticking around.



Larry Page said in a statement that “People are flocking into Google+ at an

incredible rate and we are just getting started!”

Dennis Ritchie, The Creator of Unix and C is No More, Dies at 70

Another major upset for technology world as the Creater of programming
language C and and co-Creater of Operating system unix, Dennis Ritchie
dies at 70.Dennis Ritchie died last weekend at the age of 70 after a long

illness.

The news was  reported on Wednesday and confirmed on Thursday by Bell Labs in a

statement listed below by president of Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs,  Jeong Kim.

"Dennis Ritchie, was well loved by his colleagues at Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs,

and will be greatly missed. He was truly an inspiration to all of us. We would

like to express our deepest sympathies to the Ritchie family, and to all who

         have been touched in some way by Dennis."


The C language still rules when it comes to performance i.e. the speed of

execution and considered as major milestone in programming.

Google launches a new Web programming language Dart

    


Google has launched new Web programming language, called Dart.The announcement

came today on the official Google code blog posted by By Lars Bak, Software

Engineer, Dart Team.


The programming language is been designed for building web applications and

also it has been launched as a replacement of JavaScript.


Google has made the language and preliminary tools available as open source
on dartlang.org.
